Life is hard on the Flemings' ranch in the Alberta foothills where abused or neglected horses find refuge with a kind, hard-working family. Debts abound and the bank is about to foreclose. Can they keep the ranch running?

  Season One follows the Bartlett-Fleming family, Grandpa Jack, teenager Amy and older sister Lou, as they deal with the ups and downs of running a ranch that's been in the family for generations but is now so deep in debt they're one back payment away from losing it all. After the death of their mother, the girls' lives change forever. Lou returns home from her high-powered job in New York to take over the business of the ranch. Amy realises she has inherited her mother's special horse whispering gift and is determined to keep her mother's dream alive by maintaining Heartland as a horse rescue centre. And Jack just wants to prevent the two girls from killing each other. Thrown into this mix is Ty, the hunky new stable boy; Mallory, the 12-year-old kid next door who never goes home; Scott, the local vet who had a thing for Lou back in high school; and Tim, the girls' estranged father, who has returned to Hudson and wants to reconnect with his family but doesn't know how.

  Season Two follows Amy and Lou's life on the ranch as Amy faces her feelings for Ty, the young ranch hand who has been living on Heartland as a part of his probation, while Lou adjusts to her new life in the country. Their father, Tim makes a concerted effort to establish himself as a legitimate rancher while re-connecting with the daughters he left behind.

  Season Three follows Amy continuing to work with traumatised and neglected horses but things get complicated when she suddenly finds herself thrust into the limelight of unwanted fame. Amy and Ty are finally together as a couple as Ty pursues his interest in veterinary medicine working alongside Scott. Lou has to make some difficult decisions about her future. As her relationship with Peter Morris becomes more and more serious she feels pulled between two different worlds. As for Jack, his granddaughters are growing up, Lisa wants to take their relationship to the next level and like it or not, Time is a permanent part of the family.

  Season Four sees Amy Fleming continuing to work to heal and retrain neglected and abused horses. Special projects for Amy include training a racehorse to jump, saving abandoned horses, and keeping her relationship with Ty Borden, a once troubled teen, together. Lou, Amy’s sister, struggles to live two lives, one in Dubai, and one at Heartland, which takes a toll on her marriage. Jack and Tim, Amy’s grandfather and father, quarrel with their usual frequency, and the neighbour who never seems to leave, Mallory Wells, continues to get herself into sticky situations.

  Season Five of Heartland finds Amy reaching a new level of horsemanship that sets her down a freeing path. Ty realises that in order to move forward with his life and his relationship with Amy, he has to make some tough decisions. Lou grapples with the realities of motherhood and the possibility of going back into the workforce when money becomes tight. Tim seeks out his long lost son to establish a relationship and must figure out a way to tell his daughters they have a brother. And Jack remains the rock of Heartland, gently (and sometimes not so gently) helping his family deal with the ups and downs they experience in their lives.

  Season Six of Heartland continues Amy and Ty as a couple, but the weight of the "almost-proposal" takes its toll with touching and humorous results. Lou and Peter's new home returns into a renovation nightmare which results in a tragic and potentially fatal situation. Jack's European vacation did not work out as well as he leads Lisa to believe and a newcomer, an 11-year-old runaway by the name of Georgie, becomes a new fixture at the Heartland Ranch.

  Season Seven of Heartland continues to follow life on the ranch as Amy, her older sister Lou and their grandfather Jack deal with the challenges of running the ranch that has been in their family for six generations. With every ending, comes a new beginning. This season it's all about taking risks and putting it all on the line for what you believe in. As the family struggles to cope with recent changes at the ranch, Amy realises she must reclaim her Miracle Girl status and focus on her work with horses. By mid-season, Amy will experience a trauma that irrevocably changes her life. She will grow even closer to Ty as they face difficult questions about the future. The rest of the Heartland family will take on new challenges and fight for what they believe in most: love, family and a home you can always come back to.

  Season Eight of Heartland continues the saga of a Western family as they chase big dreams and manage life's setbacks, while holding on to what matters most: courage, love, family and a home you can always come back to. The season begins with Amy arriving back from the European Equestrian circuit, still riding high on the opulent lifestyle and adrenaline of working with Prince Ahmed's high-performance horses. But if she thought life at Heartland was going to pick up where it left off, she is sadly mistaken. Amy's time away has changed her and everyone else back home. And as the family struggles through secrets, rivalries and misunderstandings, Amy and Ty must find solid ground in their relationship.
